Sarah Jo Alò: Comedian, Writer, Ukulele User: Chicago, IL
April 14-15, 2020 & August 27, September 8 2020
“I must repeat my chant. I am Sarah. Warrior of pain. Bringer of joy. Messenger of healing. I turn shit to gold every damn day.”
Sarah Jo Alò grew up in Manhattan, IL, in the country across the street from cows and surrounded by cornfields. She made her way to the Big City of Chicago where she has lived for 8 years working as an actor, standup comic, director and producer. She is a self-proclaimed “anti-feminist feminist” and most of her comedy challenges mainstream feminism, while seeking to amplify unity over differences. At the start of the pandemic in April Sarah found herself driving 13 hours straight to Connecticut where her boyfriend Vinny was with his brother Jeff, who was then in a New York hospital having just undergone multiple brain surgeries. Jeff has rapidly gone blind in the last several years from what they now know is glioblastoma, a very rare, very deadly, fast-growing cancerous tumor in the brain that causes a host of symptoms, but most notably it has caused him to have almost no short term memory. He underwent radiation in the springtime, and is currently undergoing chemotherapy. Sarah and Vinny have been living in Vinny’s childhood home with his parents and brother for 8 months in order to take care of him in a 24-hour, 7-day a week constant care situation. Sarah is no stranger to pervasive pain and suffers from several chronic illnesses, including three of the most painful chronic pain conditions, which she uses to fuel her writing. She is passionate about health and wellness (and *herb*), as holistic methods have been her only ways of coping with so much pain.
